Alexander Street To Close This Weekend In Princeton

This closure from Basin Street to the Delaware and Raritan Canal is due to utility work being done by New Jersey American Water.

PRINCETON, NJ — Alexander Street in Princeton will close from Friday night through Sunday morning for utility work, Mercer County announced.

The closure will be from Basin Street to the Delaware and Raritan Canal Bridge to all vehicular traffic from Friday at 8 p.m. until Sunday at 5 a.m.

"The closure is necessary due to utility work being undertaken by New Jersey American Water in advance of removing a 16-inch water main from service for the upcoming bridge replacement project on Alexander Street," Mercer County announced.

The utility work is needs to completed before the bridge can be removed.

A detour will be set up for drivers to use Route 1, Washington Road and Faculty Road. Alexander Street/Alexander Road will be open to Canal Road from the east and up to Basin Street from the west. The bridge will also be open to pedestrian traffic.
