MERCER COUNTY, NJ — The New Year is here! Due to the fast-spreading omicron variant, some celebrations have been canceled and others are going virtual again.

Still, there are likely to be more in-person celebrations, and if you're among those hoping to get out, here's a sampling of events happening in Mercer County for the New Year weekend:

New Year Cheer With Wine And Music, Terhune Orchard: Gather with friends, and family to celebrate the New Year on Sunday, Jan. 2, 12 p.m.- 5 p.m, at Terhune Winery. Live music with Jerry Steele from 1-4 p.m.enjoy hot mulled wine, sample a variety of wines in our tasting flights or enjoy wine by the glass. There is indoor and outdoor seating and fire pits. Light fare is available.

Princeton History Walking Tour, Princeton Battle Monument1 Monument Drive: An outdoor, family-friendly event, you'll surely enjoy if you're a history buff. On Jan. 2, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., enjoy a 90-minute walk around downtown Princeton and the University campus as you learn about historic sites in the area, including Bainbridge House, Nassau Hall, the University Chapel and Palmer Square. Tickets are $10, and advance purchase is required. Since this is an outdoor tour, masks are optional.

Festival of Trees, Morven Museum and Gardens, Princeton: Visit the Morven Museum for the holiday exhibition, Festival of Trees. Enjoy a collection of ornamental trees and mantels displayed throughout the museum's galleries. The exhibit is on until Jan. 9.

Thomas Sweet’s Holiday Village, Palmer Square, Princeton: If you haven't already, stop by 29 Palmer Square West to see the display at Thoms Sweets this season. It's on until Jan. 3

Ice Skating: Mercer County's public ice skating center is open, as is the ice skating rink in Palmer Square, Princeton. Ice skating is a great way for everyone in the family to stay active during the cold winter months while staying safe in the pandemic.
