Hot Topic Stores' Employees Support Miki & Friends Event
Miki & Friends Open AIR event will be May 18 to raise funds for Attitudes in Reverse

Lindsay Monckton, a Hot Topic store manager, has banded together with several Hot Topic stores to raise money for the Miki & Friends Open AIR event on May 18. Her team, appropriately named Hot Topic, for the store chain that sells pop culture merchandise and clothing, has afundraising page for the upcoming AIR event.
Lindsay’s inspiration to help raise awareness and funds for AIR comes in part from her own personal struggles.
“I had an eating disorder when I was younger and suffered from depression, and there were no programs like AIR back then,” said Lindsay. “I want to support her message to kids so they know they have somewhere to turn or someone to talk to.”

Lindsay learned about AIR when her company partnered with actor and AIR supporter Jared Padalecki and donated a portion of their sales for Scoobynatural Day. Founders Tricia and Kurt Baker came into her store at that time and explained their cause and asked if they could film in the store to promote the sales.
“From there I offered to volunteer for last year’s Miki & Friends walk and then just tried to get more involved moving forward,” said Lindsay.

The Hot Topic team has a goal to raise $1000 for AIR’s Miki Open AIR event.
Lindsay’s store, located in the Oxford Valley Mall, also is promoting AIR locally through posters in the store and by handing out AIR bracelets and cards to patrons. She even has a code to scan for people who wish to donate directly to AIR while shopping in the store.
In the future, she hopes to do more for AIR including possibly becoming a certified therapy AIR Dog team with Suriel, her 6-year-old Pomeranian, through the AIR Dogs: Paws for Minds program.
