JOIN THE CASA MOVEMENT! CASA for Children of Mercer County
Change a Child's Life! Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children advocate for children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
CASA (COURT APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVOCATES) of Mercer County is a non-profit organization whose mission is to train and supervise community volunteers, appointed by the Family Court, to advocate for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect. Our dedicated volunteers strive to ensure the emotional, physical and educational well-being of these children while they reside in foster homes or residential facilities. The ultimate goal of our volunteers is to help establish a safe, stable and permanent home for each child we serve.
CASA is seeking volunteers to train to become court appointed special advocates. Once sworn in by the court, the CASA volunteer will be assigned a case and conduct an independent investigation. This investigation will include an interview and regular visits with the child, and may also include interviews with therapists, teachers, social workers, physicians, foster parents, and biological parents. The CASA volunteer will also review all relevant records, appear in court, and present his or her findings and recommendations to the court in a written report.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and need no special background. We provide all the training you will need. You must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, a desire to help these children, and can commit at least 12 months to a child’s case.
