Celebrate the season with a concert by singer Katie Welsh – Enjoy Holiday Melodies at the Arts Council of Princeton on Saturday, December 7th at 7:30.

Katie will again bring her “informative cabaret” approach to the evening by also sharing the often-surprising stories behind some of the season’s favorite songs. As she describes it, “So many great seasonal songs, from ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas’ to ‘Silver Bells’, became famous as standalone standards but originated in musicals on stage and screen. This concert is a fun opportunity to not only enjoy your favorite holiday tunes but also learn a bit more about their original contexts and backstories!” For example, which song’s lyric underwent several revisions before it became truly merry? Did William Frawley really debut one of the most beloved songs of the holiday? And which composer wrote a new opening verse for one of his already-published songs so that Barbara Streisand could include it on her Christmas album? Come December 7th to find out!

In addition to performing in venues and at private events in the Princeton area, Katie has also been seen in New York at Feinstein's/54 Below, Don't Tell Mama, The Duplex Cabaret Theatre, the Metropolitan Room, BroadwayCon, and the Princeton Club of New York. Katie is a graduate of Princeton University, where she first began developing her cabaret concept.
