Man Indicted In DWI Accident That Killed Designated Driver: MCPO

EWING, NJ — A West Windsor man has been indicted in connection with a crash that killed a 20-year-old college student who was acting as a designated driver last year, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday.

David Lamar, 23, was indicted on one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter, one count of second-degree death by auto and six counts of second-degree assault by auto in the crash that killed Michael Sot, a Clark man who was a math major at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ).

Lamar was impaired and speeding when he was driving south on Pennington Road in Ewing Township in a black 2018 Kia Optima on Dec. 2, 2018, according to court documents. He tried to pass other vehicles ahead of him, crossed the double yellow lines and collided with an oncoming 2007 Dodge Charger, according to authorities.

Sot was the designated driver of the Charger, according to authorities. There were two people in the Kia and six in the Charger. Lamar’s passenger and the five other people in the Charger suffered injuries that ranged from broken bones, a ruptured bladder and a brain injury, according to police.
