Mercer County Man Captured Two Weeks After Being Added to Most Wanted List

Two weeks after being added to Mercer County’s Most Wanted List, Matt Brecko was arrested, Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler said on Tuesday.
Brecko, 31, of Ewing, surrendered without incident to Ewing Police at about 1:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Parkway Avenue after an intense two-week search conducted by Sheriff’s Officers.
After Brecko was placed on the Most Wanted List, his photo was published in newspapers and online, including social media.

More than a dozen confidential tips were called into the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and other local police departments.
Those tips placed him in Ewing, West Trenton, and near the Delaware Raritan Canal. Brecko was suspected to be hiding from detection by living in the streets as well as wooded areas near the canal path.

Brecko allegedly illegally entered and burglarized an apartment on West Farrell Avenue in Ewing using an unauthorized master key. Brecko, as a former employee of the apartment complex, allegedly used an unreturned master key. He was charged by Ewing Police in August of 2014.
He failed to appear in Superior Court on Aug. 13.
“The Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the public’s cooperation and the many tips that aided in our search for Brecko,” Kemler said. “We are also grateful to the Ewing Township Police, who acted quickly and took him into custody.”
The following law enforcement agencies also assisted the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office in the search for Brecko: The New Jersey State Police, New Jersey State Park Police, in addition to the Morrisville, Hopewell, and Trenton Police Departments.
Brecko is held in the Mercer County Correction Center awaiting an appearance in court.
