Mercer County Man Indicted In Girlfriend's Murder

Daniel Torres Jr. was indicted in the death of Jennifer Beer.

A 39-year-old Hamilton Township man has been indicted in connection with his live-in girlfriend's death, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri announced.

Daniel Torres Jr. was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, third-degree animal cruelty, fourth-degree prohibited weapons and devices, and two counts of second-degree certain persons not to possess a firearm in the death of 31-year-old Jennifer Beer.

Police found Beer lying on the floor of her bedroom while responding to an apartment in the 800 block of South Olden Avenue just after 6 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13. Upon arrival, officers heard a gunshot come from the second floor apartment.

Officers forced their way into the apartment and immediately detained Torres. After further investigation, they found Beer in the bedroom. She had been shot several times and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. A dead dog was also found nearby, in the same room. Police didn't say what had killed the dog.
