Now Hiring: Princeton Police Department Seeks Officers

Candidates must pass written and physical fitness tests, as well as an intense background check.

PRINCETON, NJ — The Princeton Police Department is hiring.

The department is looking for police officer candidates who are intelligent, possess good writing skills, good verbal communication skills, like to work with people to solve community problems, are self-starters, and are self-assured, positive thinking people. The written entrance examination will be administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, 5:30 p.m. at The Patriots Theater at the Trenton War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive, Trenton NJ 08608. Candidates should:
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a New Jersey resident at the time of appointment
  • Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license at the time of appointment
  • Possess an Associate’s Degree, 60 college credits or 4 years of active military service
  • Have vision no more than 20/100 in each eye, corrected to 20/20 in each eye
  • Have normal hearing in both ears
  • Be in good physical condition
  • Have good moral character
  • Be able to swim
  • Be able to distinguish colors

Candidates who successfully pass a written test will be subject to a physical fitness test. Selected candidates will also undergo a series of interviews and an intensive background investigation. The physical fitness test will consist of a 1.5 mile run in 14:40 minutes or less, 28 push-ups in one minute and 28 sit-ups in one minute.0

Candidates should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the written and physical exams to check-in and bring a photo ID. An optional Study Guide for the Written Examination is available for an additional $16. Anyone who buys a study guide will have the $16 fee added on to their application submission fee.

Candidates who purchase Study Guides must pick up their Study Guide from the Record’s Bureau of the Princeton Police Department between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. Candidates must bring a Photo ID and a copy of their Submission/Payment Confirmation.
