Princeton Council to Take More Time on Parking Garage Ordinance Changes
Proposed changes call for the elimination of free parking for library patrons.

Princeton Council President Bernie Miller and Princeton Public Library Executive Director Leslie Berger joined several members of the public who voiced their disapproval of an ordinance that would eliminate free parking for library patrons, Planet Princeton reports.
At last week’s meeting, council agreed to study the issue more before implementing new rates and policies for the Spring Street Parking Garage, the only garage run by the town, according to the report.
The plan was to extend the half hour of free parking to one hour for everyone, but eliminate free parking for patrons.

Miller argued that by eliminating free parking, Princeton was breaking its promise that a library put in its current location would include free parking for patrons, according to the report.
The initial agreement called for two hours of free parking, but that was suspended when the former township and the former borough couldn’t agree on the subsidy, according to the report. After a year, the agreed to provide two hours of free parking in perpetuity.
