Princeton Man Charged in Accident That Hospitalized University Student

Steven Cruz was charged with one count of reckless driving and one count of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

A 20-year-old Princeton man was charged in connection with an accident that left a Princeton University student hospitalized on April 8.

Steven Cruz was charged with one count of reckless driving and one count of failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, Princeton Police said Tuesday afternoon.

Nyssa Emerson, 25, of Oviedo, Florida, was crossing from the west side of Washington Road to the east side when she was struck by a 2008 Toyota Prius Cruz was driving.

Cruz was driving south on Washington Road, just south of Ivy Lane around 9:32 p.m. It was raining lightly and the road was wet. No one else was in the car.

Emerson suffered extensive injuries from the accident, and she was transported by the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.

She remained hospitalized in stable but guarded condition on Tuesday.
