Road Closures, Construction Update In Princeton This Week

Here's are road closures and traffic updates from Princeton this week:

PRINCETON, NJ — Beginning Monday, Chambers Street will be closed from Nassau Street to 16 Chambers Street starting at 7 a.m. to all traffic traveling northbound for utility work.

This will be a 24-hour closure until Friday, Aug. 5 at 7 p.m. The road will reopen to traffic traveling northbound if the work is completed before Aug. 5.

Chambers Street Garage will be open. and vehicles can use the garage entrance on Chambers Street with access from Hulfish Street.

Vehicles traveling on Nassau Street may use John Street Alley, Palmer Square or Witherspoon Street to get to Hulfish Street. Detours will be posted.

Earle Asphalt Co. will complete sanitary sewer main replacement and pave the trench on Witherspoon Street between Green Street and Quarry Street on Monday.

Sanitary sewer lateral replacement will continue on Witherspoon Street, between Nassau Street and Spring Street. Sewer lateral trenches should be backfilled and paved at the end of each workday. Lateral replacement on the east side of Witherspoon Street may also occur. Sidewalk closures and detours will be necessary in the areas of the lateral installations.

Beginning Tuesday, Oliver Construction will be excavating and installing conduit for a future communications pole on Witherspoon between Nassau Street and Spring Street. This work should still allow for traffic flow on northbound on Witherspoon Street.

Motorists are encouraged to follow detour signs.

Traffic and Parking

  • On Monday the southbound lane on Witherspoon Street between Green Street and Quarry Street will be closed. There will be an alternating traffic pattern in this area with flaggers present.
  • The west side of Witherspoon Street between Nassau Street to Spring Street will be closed. Parking will not be permitted in this area during construction. Witherspoon Street will be open to traffic traveling northbound.
  • Hulfish Street, Palmer Square, Hulfish Parking Garage and the Griggs Corner Lot will be open and accessible.
  • Residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize the parking garages as on-street parking will become limited.
