Terhune Orchards Adds Wine Barn To Popular Princeton Apple Farm

Wine was first made at the farm in 2010, and the barn opened earlier this month.

Princeton, NJ -- The wine business is booming at the popular Terhune Orchards apple farm.

Terhune Orchard’s new wine barn opened on Saturday, Dec. 10.

Gary and Pam Mount have owned the farm since 1975. In 2006, they planted 12 varieties of grapes over five acres of land. The first crop was harvested in 2009, and the first wine was made in 2010.

They started with seven varieties and a tasting room. The vineyard has since expanded to nine acres and 12 varieties of wine, including three made from the farm's own apple cider.

The tasting room is located in the new wine barn, which celebrated its grand opening earlier this month.

Their daughter, Reuwai Hanewald, helps her dad with the wine making, and their daughters’ husbands help out in the vineyard.

The barn is large enough to fit 11 Albrigi jacketed tanks, and there is an eight-spout bottling line, according to winesandvines.com.. There is also a second room for refrigeration. The family also plans to add solar panels to the facility.

Terhune Orchards already offers apple and pumpkin picking and cider pies, and there is a farmer’s market, as well as gift baskets and farm animals.

In addition to apples and grapes, it offers a variety of other crops, including berries, cherries, peaches, pears, potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce and flowers, among other options.

The farm is located at 330 Cold Soil Road in Princeton.
