10 REASONS TO HAVE YOUR KIDS AVOID DRINKING SODA

I think the best alternative is to expose kids to undesirable foods on a limited basis, thus avoiding the "forbidden fruit syndrome".

When I was growing up, we never had soda in the house on a daily basis. Drinking soda on a daily basis is a very bad habit. As we all know, it isn’t easy to break a bad habit. It is a lot easier to stop bad habits before they start.

I don’t agree 100% with the idea to never let your kinds drink soda, eat junk food or go to McDonald’s. Even though it would be great if they never did do those things, when they are able to make their own decisions, they may binge on those “forbidden fruits”. I think that the best alternative is to expose them to those undesirable food choices on a limited basis.

Artificially sweetened sodas are no better, maybe even worse. Artificial sweeteners are in my opinion extremely toxic. Besides toxicity, artificial sweeteners stimulate the hypothalamus to actually increase your appetite, which is the opposite to what someone wants to do if they are trying to lose weight.

Juices aren’t much better, since they are also high in sugar. Filtered water or seltzer with a squeeze of lemon or lime is a great alternative to soda.
