In January, Americans spent more money at restaurants and bars than in grocery stores.

In January, for the first time since the Census Bureau began tracking data in 1992, Americans spent more money at restaurants and bars than at grocery stores.
More than two decades ago, Americans spent $162 in groceries for every $100 they spent in restaurants. But this past January, they spent nearly equal amounts of money in both places: $50.475 billion in restaurants and bars, and $50.466 billion in grocery stores.
The significance of this is that home cooked meals are by in large healthier to eat than restaurant cooked meals. You know what you are eating when you make it yourself.

There are 34 countries with higher life expectancies than the United States, but we spend more money per capita on healthcare than any other country. If we could buy our way to good health, we would be the healthiest nation on the planet. That is not the case.
