Beehive Removed From Neighborhood Where Attacking Swarm Was

The attacking bees sent a husband and wife to the hospital, officials said.

RAMSEY, NJ — The hive of a bee colony that invaded a borough neighborhood Saturday has been removed, officials said.

The Ramsey Office of Emergency Management (OEM) said in a Facebook post Sunday that the hive was removed by a professional beekeeper, but urged residents to remain "cautious."

Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney told NorthJersey.com that the bees were removed to a farm.

The bees swarmed the areas of Martis and Elizabeth avenues and the surrounding area.

The beekeeper and his wife were stung several times and taken to Valley Hospital.

Several police officers — including Gurney — were stung, Gurney said in the NorthJersey.com report. One police officer was treated at the hospital and released.
