Motorcyclist In Route 17 Crash Severely Injured His Hand And Leg: Report

Man was reportedly traveling more than 100 miles per hour when he crashed in Ramsey, police said.

RAMSEY, N.J. - A 21-year-old motorcyclist who hit a car on Route 17 Friday was thrown 100 from his bike, severely injuring his hand and leg, police said.

Mahwah police originally spotted the motorcyclist traveling north on Route 17. Ramsey police saw him traveling south on the highway, but chose not to pursue him because the rider "was going so far. He just flew by him," said Ramsey Police Chief Bryan Gurney told The Record.

No charges had been issued in the incident, police said in the report, and the rider's name was not released.

The injuries were previously described as "devastating."

A trauma surgeon who happened to be passing the accident stopped to help the driver, who was lying in the middle of the road. The rider was airlifted to Hackensack University Medical Center for surgery, a previous report on the incident said.
