Months-Long Water Main Project Begins On Randolph's Pleasant Hill Road
Crews will replace a 24-inch main with new 12-inch pipe along a roughly 1,790-foot stretch, then mill and repave.
RANDOLPH, NJ — A portion of Pleasant Hill Road will be fully closed beginning on or about Friday, June 12, as the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority's contractor starts Phase 2 of a water main replacement project expected to continue through Aug. 31.
Crews will install a 12-inch ductile iron pipe water main to replace the existing 24-inch PCCP water main in and along Pleasant Hill Road between Mel Drive and Spring Brook Drive, according to a project notice from the township's Division of Engineering/Water & Sewer. The project also includes repaving Pleasant Hill Road from Marre Drive to just east of Park Avenue, covering the earlier Phase 1 and Phase 2 work areas.
The work is being performed by Underground Utilities Corporation on behalf of the MCMUA under a Randolph Township road opening permit, and is privately funded. Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the schedule is subject to change based on unforeseen conditions.

The construction requires full closure of the affected portion of Pleasant Hill Road, with traffic detours posted. Drivers should expect delays or plan alternate routes. All properties within the work area will have limited vehicular access to their driveways during construction, and property owners are advised to plan accordingly. Officials said the access restrictions are necessary to ensure the water main is properly installed and to prevent damage to vehicles using the road during construction.
Construction activities include excavation to a depth of 48 to 54 inches in the southerly lane for approximately 1,790 linear feet, installation of the new 12-inch main, backfilling the trench with dense graded aggregates compacted to a minimum of 95 percent, and abandoning the existing 24-inch PCCP pipe in place once water service is switched to the new main.

Crews will also place hot mix asphalt in layers to the surface, restripe areas disturbed by the work as needed, complete various residential water service replacements and stubs for future connections, and mill and repave Pleasant Hill Road within the construction limits.
