A Good Do Over

Everybody loves a "before" and an "after", especially this time of year. After all, isn't that what New Year's resolutions are all about? We seek to change our weight, our jobs, our surroundings. Sometimes, our living quarters are the most radically transformed, and the most troublesome.

Some home transformations are easier than others. Homeowners are often looking for cozy chairs, spill resistant fabrics, or new flooring. Although these upgrades can cost a pretty penny, they are fairly specific requests. And they are driven by knowing what it is that is needed to achieve the "after".

Other transformations are trickier. Maybe you don't know how to best utilize your space, but you are feeling cramped. Maybe you have gone through a life change (empty nest, divorce, downsizing) and your home no longer reflects your current living situation. Or maybe you are just tired of living with mismatched hand me downs!

Consider making small changes at first. Especially if you have lived with the same look for many years. An oversized chair and ottoman cozy up a nook when outside temps are well below freezing. If you are in one of our shops and see a "signature look" that you enjoy, don't hesitate to ask about design services. Did you realize how empty your home is now that the Christmas has been packed in the attic? Consider a china cabinet or curio. It will help you get all of your china out from behind closed counter doors! (Also helpful if you are trying to get organized and don't know what you have!)

Wherever your redecorating plans take you, I hope it is a comfortable place where heirlooms mix with whatever designs are a good fit for your home. Here's to a New Year where design is inspired by your 'real' life!
