📰 News we're reading

• Stevie Van Zandt to be inducted onto Count Basie Walk of Fame (themonmouthjournaleastern.com) — Red Bank's Count Basie Center for the Arts will soon induct Stevie Van Zandt onto its Walk of Fame, then host a TeachRock Teachers Hall of Fame celebration the same evening. Local readers can attend the October 17 gala on Monmouth Street, where educators will be honored, national performers will appear, and ticket sales will support free music-based curriculum in schools.

• Jon Bon Jovi funded a Red Bank restaurant in 2011 where diners pay what they can or volunteer to eat; JBJ Soul Kitchen has since served more than 275,000 meals (parade.com) — Red Bank's JBJ Soul Kitchen continues to quietly serve thousands of neighbors through its pay-what-you-can, volunteer-for-a-meal model, offering chef-prepared, three-course dinners without requiring proof of need. Staff also connect guests with housing, job training, health care, and other services, making the Red Bank location a broader support hub for residents facing financial or personal challenges.

• Decision Made: Oceanic Bridge Will Have 65-Foot Clearance (tworivertimes.com) — A long-debated decision on the Oceanic Bridge means a new fixed-span structure with 65 feet of clearance, matching the Highlands–Sea Bright Bridge and keeping Navesink River access consistent for Red Bank's Monmouth Boat Club sailors. The project adds a roundabout, shared-use path, and scenic overlooks, aiming to improve safety and access for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists across Middletown and Rumson.
