Monmouth County Library to Show 4 Movies in May

Four movies will be shown at the Monmouth County Library Eastern Branch on Thursdays  in May.

On May 3, the Alfred Hitchcock thriller, "Sabotage' will be shown. The film is a chilling, detailed thriller about terrorism and bombings. Sylvia Sidney plays the wife of a movie theater manager who gradually becomes suspicious of her husband being involved in a series of terrorist attacks. The movie was adapted from Joseph Conrad's novel, "The Secret Agent." The film stars Sylvia Sidney, Oscar Homolka and John Loder.

On May 12, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, the classic film, "Shenandoah" will be shown. The film stars Jimmy Stewart as Charlie Anderson, a farmer in Shenandoah, VA. He is the father of several children who was determined to keep his sons out of conflict during the Civil War. In the beginning he says "it is not his war to fight" but Stewart' efforts to remain neutral ended when his son-in-law is drafted into the Confederacy and his youngest son is captured by the Union Army. The film also stars Doug McClure, Patrick Wayne and Katharine Ross.

On May 19, the film, Sing, You Sinners will be shown. The movie stars Bing Crosby in this Damon Runyonesque story of three brothers looking for that elusive big break as a musical combo. Crosby is the deadbeat brother always looking for that fast buck, while Fred MacMurray toils as an auto mechanic and Donald O'Connor is too young to work. Crosby leaves for Los Angeles and brags to his family about his new found success in business. Of course, they join him and find out that he is broke and has invested everything into a race horse.

On May 26, Broadway Melody of 1936 will be shown;. Jack Benny plays an odious gossip columnist who threatens to reveal the truth about the producer Robert Taylor's relationship to the star of his new Broadway show. Eleanor Powell explodes on the screen as Taylor's ex-girlfriend from his hometown looking for her show biz break. This box office hit has it all --- great dancing, wonderful music, snappy dialogue. Also starring are Buddy
Ebsen, Una Merkel and Sid Silvers.
