MONTCLAIR NJ Partners for Women and Justice hosted its eighth annual spring benefit to raise funds for free legal assistance for low-income and abused women on April 26, 2011 at the Valley Regency in Clifton. Best-selling author, Leslie Morgan Steiner, and 9/11 victims’ advocate and government leader, Virginia S. Bauer, were honored at this year’s event.
Virginia S. Bauer has dedicated much of her personal and professional life to serving the public good. Left a widow with three children after the 9/11 attacks, she became a key activist advocating on behalf 9/11 families. Bauer worked closely with Congressional leaders and the White House toward the successful enactment of 9/11 victim legislation. Almost ten years after the 9/11 tragedy, she continues to be active by assisting in the creation of a new development plan for the WTC. Since 2003, Bauer has held several high-level government positions, under the direction of four New Jersey governors, including Director of the New Jersey Lottery; Commerce Secretary; and Commissioner for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, a position she continues to hold today. A former Sr. Vice President of Development for Covenant House International, she is the Chief Executive Officer of GTBM Inc. She also serves on the board of various community-based and professional organizations.
