What are the top issues you see facing the township and how would you address them:
- Residents are concerned about the future of Howell, We do not want to be like neighboring towns; we want to maintain our rural character. Obviously there shouldn't be an abundance of warehouses; we are just not the town for that but with commonsense zoning, some can be built following code and actually benefit the town as far as ratables are concerned. I have to say that I am very impressed with township management, from the town attorney to the director of land use. They are both quite knowledgeable and practical at the same time.
- People are also very concerned about the economy, so we need commonsense spending in town hall.
- Safety first is one of the main reasons young families moved here, so supporting our police and first responders must be a priority. When it comes to bail reform, unfortunately that comes from the state. With the current pro-criminal administration in Trenton, we just have to keep the pressure on from local and county levels. I do not see a big problem in Howell because our police force is top notch. We are also lucky to live in Monmouth County where the sheriff's office fully supports law enforcement and our safety.
Identify specific goals or ideas you have to enhance life in your town:
I will fight to preserve family values, to ensure that the children in Howell get to grow up with the same opportunities we had. That includes putting families first, supporting our parents in our schools and keeping Howell safe.
What in your experience or background prepares you for the office you are seeking:
Being a teacher in the public school system for so long will help me deal with different challenges. If it is one thing you must be as an educator, it is to be flexible and be willing to do your homework.
The candidates in Howell are:
- Fred Gasior (Republican)
- Susan Fischer (Republican)
