Brendan Corcoran Said Run Was 'Physically Challenging'
Ridgewood firefighter said he may try and run a marathon in the gear, but he's not sure yet.
Ridgewood firefighter Brendan Corcoran trained for the new world record he set very specifically.
Corcoran, unofficially, set a new world record for running a mile in firefighter gear at the Fred d’Elia Memorial Day Ridgewood Run Monday.
Corcoran clocked in at 6 minutes 45 seconds. The previous record was 7 minutes 58 seconds.

The gear weighs 25 pounds and the boots alone weigh 7 pounds.
“It’s the extra weight on your feet, that’s the tough part,” Corcoran said. “The gear really hugs you and it doesn’t give you much room to breathe and it holds everything in.”

Corcoran ran a half marathon in full gear already. He finished the Michelob Ultra Queens Half Marathon in March. He finished it in 1 hour 48 minutes and 44 seconds.
“it was a great challenge,” Corcoran said.
Corcoran ran to support charities and causes too. He ran to support firefighter cancer awareness and pet fire safety with the Code 3 For A Cure Foundation and petalertsign.com.
