Calico Holds Grand Opening At Ridgewood Store

Calico, a retailer of designer fabrics, custom window treatments and custom upholstered furniture, recently held a grand opening for its new Ridgewood, NJ, store located at 371 Route 17 South. The 68-year-old national retailer held the event to introduce its new store concept to area customers.

“Our new Ridgewood location is already one of Calico’s top performing stores, which confirms the shift to our new store look and feel,” said CEO Bert Kerstetter. “The ‘new Calico’ is a fresh take on our long-standing commitment to provide free design services by experienced professionals. We also offer discerning customers access to an extensive selection of designer fabrics without having to hire an interior designer for their home decorating project.”

Calico, founded in 1948, recently dropped "Corners" from its name in a move away from a more “country” feel. They are also upgrading the look of their stores as part of a rebranding initiative, which began in 2013. The new Calico features a modern, elegant, studio-style store design offering natural lighting, hardwood floors, painted fixtures and high ceilings. In the middle of the store is a Design Center where customers and store designers can work on projects together—selecting window treatments, furniture frames and coordinating fabric and trims.

The fabrics are merchandised by color throughout the store to make the selection process easy and efficient. Small room vignettes featuring sofas, chairs, ottomans and window treatments are displayed among the fabric fixtures for inspiration. The new store concept offers the same selection of fabrics and products found in all 79 Calico stores across the country. Fabric choices cover the full color palette, as well as access to designs by Ralph Lauren, Robert Allen, Charlotte Moss, Madcap Cottage, Sarah Richardson, Vern Yip, French General, Nate Berkus and Jeffrey Allen Marks.

“Our new store on Route 17, which replaces our older Ramsey, NJ, location, also offers Calico a highly-visible location in a new strip mall on the Ridgewood/Paramus border,” noted Ridgewood Store Manager Ilise Cohn. “And we’re conveniently located right next to a new Starbucks!”
