Documentary On Ramapough Tribe's Struggles To Be Screened Tonight In Ridgewood

The documentary will be screened at the Clearview Warner Quad Theater at 7:30 p.m.

A new documentary chronicling the Ramapough Lunaape’s ongoing struggle for recognition as an official Native American Indian tribe by the federal government will be screened at the Clearview Warner Quad Theater in Ridgewood tonight at 7:30 p.m. The tribe lives in Mahwah and the surrounding area.

“They’re history has been written by everybody except them,” said filmmaker Steven Oritt, who made the documentary with Corey Bobker.

Ramapough officials have been trying to get federal recognition for years. The efforts have been met with resistance from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who owns three Atlantic City casinos, and politicians. Trump once called the tribe ”a bunch of drunken Injuns” who want to open a casino.
