$12.3M Bonding Ordinance For Parking Garage Introduced

Building would add 306 more parking spaces downtown.

The Village Council introduced an ordinance Wednesday to bond $12.3 million to construct a parking deck downtown.

The $12.3 million would finance the cost of the most expensive of the three design options officials are considering for the parking deck. The ordinance does not specifically state what option will be constructed.

The parking decks would add either 306, 255, or 206 parking spaces and cost between $12.3 million and $10.1 million in bonds.

The Village Council informally voted 3-2 recently in favor of the biggest, most expensive of three design options. Mayor, Paul Aronsohn, Deputy Mayor Albert Pucciarelli, and Councilwoman Gwenn Hauck voted in favor of the design, while Councilwoman Susan Knudsen and Councilman Michael Sedon cast the dissenting votes, citing the building’s large size. Knudsen and Sedon supported building the smallest design option.

A public hearing on the bond ordinance will be held at the Village Council’s Jan. 6 meeting. Members of the public will have an opportunity to speak on the ordinance before a vote is taken.

Voters approved bonding up to $15 million for the project via a referendum in November.
