Ridgewood Council Approves Flying Gay Pride Flag Next Month

The flag will be flown in Van Neste Square for the entire month of June, which is Gay Pride Month.

RIDGEWOOD, NJ — The Village Council approved flying a rainbow flag, a symbol of gay pride, at Van Neste Square during the month of June in recognition of Gay Pride Month.

The decision comes after a discussion the council had last week about flying the flag on the municipal flagpole in front of Village Hall. Village Attorney Matthew Rogers had said there was nothing keeping the village from flying the flag, but cautioned it could set a bad precedent and force the village to fly other politically-charged flags.

The issue created some controversy after council members last week seemed to be against flying the flag on the municipal flagpole, but officials took no formal action.
