Ridgewood Implements Tougher Water Restrictions
Only hand-held sprinklers may be used two days a week.

Ridgewood officials implemented strict water restrictions Friday due to the ongoing dry weather. A stage four irrigation ban is in effect immediately.
Only hand-held hoses may be used two days a week, Ridgewood Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld said Friday. Residents of even-numbered houses may water outside Wednesdays and Sundays and those in odd-numbered houses may water on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Watering is not allowed Mondays, Thursdays, or Fridays.

“I cannot emphasize enough the importance of obeying these restrictions — this is a public safety issue — our firefighters need to have the necessary water and water pressure to be able to fight fires and we also need to maintain reserves for household use,” Sonenfeld said.
More than 50 summonses and hundreds of warnings were issued in recent weeks.

More village employees have been appointed to issue summonses to violators, Sonenfeld said.
