We recently had the pleasure of gathering at Magic Door Studio in Montclair to listen to the latest heavy tunes from modern day shock rocker Granny 4 Barrel – think Norman Bates. The songs are expected to surface soon on disc.

“We took all the best elements of rock, the wisdom and inspiration from the past, mixed it together with some awarenss and relevance of the present, and the unchided freedom of the future,” Granny told the assembled media before hitting play.

The new material is a progression from previous songs and bear well for Granny 4 Barrel’s future. “Monolithic” is heavy, dynamic and hard driving. “Beautiful Beast” is a call to arms anthem that picks up where earlier song “Freak Flag” left off.

Granny surprised everyone with a heavy groove cover of “I Feel Love” by disco queen Donna Summer. “I always loved that song and I’m always searching for the right cover to remake and I’ve been thinking about doing this one for a while,” Granny said. “You don’t hear a lot of remakes of that song so we tried to put our stamp on it. I love it and I think it turned out real good.”

“The Art of Deception” is a menacing, mid-paced tune.” The session ended on a high note with “Nitro Sexy,” a powerful, freight train of a tune.

Multi-platinum, award-winning producer David Bendeth is helming the boards for Granny’s new material and had high praise for the artist. “At first I was kind of freaked out by the image,” Bendeth said. “But they’re not laughing now about Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie and Slipknot.

“I feel like with these new songs we’re taking more risks and getting heavier,” Bendeth said. “I’m working to bring him into that zone of undeniably heavy music and I like what I’m hearing.”

Granny says she, err, he, will be back in the studio recording more new songs soon. We can’t wait to hear them!
