A turkey smashed the windshield of a New Jersey family's SUV this past week.
A turkey smashed the windshield of a New Jersey family's SUV this past week. The 30-pound turkey smashed the windshield while the New Jersey family was traveling in northwest Indiana and visiting colleges. They suffered minor injuries, police said.
The Taraboczhia family from Emerson had just left Notre Dame where their daughter, Riana, was just accepted.
They were traveling west on U.S. 20 in La Porte County when the wild turkey flew into the path of their rental vehicle. The wild turkey was impaled in the center of the windshield.

The 30-pound Tom was killed on impact, and the family only suffered minor cuts from the glass.
"Mating season for wild turkeys means that they are often on the move and can be as hazardous as deer," police said.
