Former Oradell DPW Superintendent

Alfred 'Big Al' Carloni, 86, of Forked River, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Community Medical Center in Toms River.

Born on January 10, 1926 to Joseph Carloni and Livia Valentini Carloni from Cliffside Park where he spent his youth. He married Marie Louise 'Marylou' Sittig and moved to Oradell where they raised their children James and Laurie Carloni. 

'Big Al' was the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works in Oradell before retiring in 1993. He was that local hero type of man who quietly helped and inspired everyone around him. He was a simple hard working man with a big heart.

He and the love of his life Marylou moved to Forked River to enjoy their golden years of retirement overlooking a lake that they referred to as God’s country. 

He was a proud veteran of the US Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He served as a gunner and remained a member of the VFW and American Legion in Oradell and was a member of the Armed Guard and Old Guard in Forked River.

Surviving are his loving wife Marie Louise 'Marylou' of 58 years; son James Peter Carloni and his wife Mary Elizabeth of Farmingdale; daughter Laurie Carloni of Spring Lake Heights; and three grandchildren Ashley, Tyler and Faith.
