$280K Water Main Upgrade To Begin In Fair Haven Next Week
Water lines dating back to the 1920s will be replaced by an eight-inch iron main along Gillespie Avenue.
FAIR HAVEN, NJ - New Jersey American Water is slated to begin work on approximately 900 feet of water main in Fair Haven starting next week, according to the water authority. Decades-old water lines (initially installed in the 1920s) are set to be replaced by an eight-inch iron main along Gillespie Avenue.
The $280,000 initiative will also see the replacement of one fire hydrant and 26 service lines in the municipality.
“[This] investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase
water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community,” New Jersey American Water announced in a news release. “This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.”

Construction will begin on or around Oct. 14, with an expected completion date set for the end of November. Work hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4 :30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Final street restorations are scheduled for spring 2021.
Traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours, according to the water authority .Emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed street access during construction.
