Five Meridian Health Nurses Receive Awards of Excellence

Four Meridian Health Nurses have been recognized by Monmouth University’s Nursing and Health Studies Honor Society.

The Lambda Delta Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International (SSTI) Honor Society chartered at Monmouth University’s Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies awarded the nurses at the 21st Annual Research Day for their superior achievement in the nursing profession.


The recipients of these awards include Margaret “Maggie” Ciocco of Brick, Khalena Anselmo of Wall, Alda Valenzuela of Hazlet, MS,RN,BC, Nurse Educator at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation at Brick, Vicki DeNoia of Rumson, and Darry Guli, of Shrewsbury.

Ciocco was awarded the Hannelore Sweetwood Mentorship Award recognizing those nurses who have demonstrated special interest and guidance to colleagues.  These are role models who foster talent and development and represent the best attributes in nursing practice.

Anselmo is a RN orthopedic nurse at Meridian Sub-acute Rehabilitation at Wall was awarded the Dr. Carolyn Zagury Scholarship. Khalena plans to complete her MSN program at Monmouth University.

Valenzuela a RN, BSN, CWS, Vice President of Nursing at Meridian Quality Care, was awarded for her Poster Presentation, “The Perceived Level of Hope among Older Adults Permanently Residing in Nursing Homes”. Alda will be completing her Master’s Program at Monmouth University this year.

DeNoia a RN, MSN, APN and Guli RN, MS, NP-C, Nursing Educators for Meridian Quality Care were awarded for their Poster Presentation, “Shooting for a 5 Star Rating.”  Vicki and Darry demonstrated the continued improvement of Meridian’s four Sub-Acute Nursing & Rehabilitation facilities.  The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the federal agency which administers Medicare, Medicaid, and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, has given Meridian’s Rehab facilities 5-Star Ratings for the past three consecutive years.
