Inexplicable seizures, tics and tremors wrack young women one by one, throwing a community into a paranoid frenzy. While it seems the stuff of science fiction, Megan Abbott's The Fever borrows from recent headlines to craft a creepy twisting tale, perfect for your summer bedside stack. River Road Books in Fair Haven will welcome Abbott on July 10th at 7pm to share her latest work with her many fans. Called "a hot new entrant in the 'Is it the next 'Gone Girl' sweepstakes" by the New York Times, Abbott finds her work a top pick for many national summer reading lists. From Entertainment Weekly and People Magazine to The Washington Post and New York Magazine, The Fever is one of the season's hottest recommendations. It's no wonder. Sarah Jessica Parker's Instagram showed that her book club was reading it and reviewers herald Abbott as having "exceptional gifts for making nerves jangle and skin crawl."
Author Alison Gaylin will join Abbott on July 10th to share her book, Stay With Me. Gaylin has created multi-layered investigator Brenna Spector. Spector is a missing persons PI afflicted with Hyperthymestic Syndrome, a rare disorder that enables her to remember every moment of every day of her life. Spector's determination to uncover the reasons for her sister's disappearance years ago is now affecting her own teenage daughter who also vanishes. Jeffrey Deaver says,"This haunting novel will grab you on the first page and simply not let go."
"This is a fever you'll definitely want to catch," says bookstore owner Karen Rumage. "The word has spread and customers are tearing through these books." To reserve a spot on July 10th at 7pm, contact River Road Books at 732-747-9455 or email riverroadbooks@verizon.net.
