Not familiar with Horizons? Please let us tell you more! Read on below to find out about this amazing summer program.

What is Horizons?

Horizons has operated on Rumson Country Day’s campus for nineteen years. Each summer, Horizons offers a six-week academic, cultural and recreational enrichment program to at-risk students from a diverse, low-income population. Our students are in grades K-8 and live primarily in the Red Bank area. Horizons’ goal is to offer more than 150 students the opportunity to attend Horizons during the summer.
Goals

  • To prevent or reduce summer learning loss amongst Horizons students
  • To foster lifelong desire for learning
  • To provide cultural experiences and social growth
  • To insure that all Horizons children learn to swim, an important life skill that saves lives and builds confidence

Volunteers

Volunteers are an essential component of the Horizons programs. Volunteers support our professional teachers, offer cultural and recreational programs, and assist our chef in providing nutritional meals. Volunteer applications for Summer 2015 will be available on now available at rcds.org/horizons

Support

Horizons is able to operate thanks to the generous support from Rumson Country Day School, community-minded individuals, foundations, corporations and other charitable organizations. The cost of sending one child to Horizons for the summer is approximately $2,200.

Accomplishments

Horizons National received the 2010 Excellence in Summer Learning Award from the National Summer Learning Association. Horizons also earned national recognition from the Wallace Foundation as one of the premier summer learning programs.
