Fair Haven Named One Of NJ’s Safest Cities In New Ranking

FAIR HAVEN, NJ - If you’re seeking to live in one of the safest areas in New Jersey, look no further than Fair Haven in Monmouth County. According to business insurance resource AdvisorSmith, the municipality ranked at number five on their annual list of the Safest Cities in New Jersey.

Using reported crime data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting Dataset, the yearly analysis looks at violent and property crimes from 37 large cities, 200 midsize cities, and 247 small cities in the state. Crime scores were calculated for each city, and the cities were ranked to find the safest places in New Jersey.

Cities were categorized based upon population, with a 50,000+ population for large cities, 10,000 and 50,000 population for midsize cities and a 10,000 and under population for small cities.

From that research, they determined that Fair Haven is the number five safest small city in New Jersey. Here's why:

• Fair Haven’s crime score was 4.1, which is much lower than the statewide average of 33.8 for small cities.
• Fair Haven’s violent crime rate was 0.5 per 1000 residents, compared with an average of 5.4 per 1000 across all small cities.
• The city's property crime rate was 2.8 per 1000 residents. Statewide, the average property crime rate in small cities was 22.2 per 1000.

The safest small city in New Jersey was Matawan, another Monmouth County location.

Monmouth County’s Middletown was named the safest large city, while Somerset County’s Warren Township was named the safest midsize city.
