Getting Fit 101: It's Not a Competition

When it comes to wellness goals, let's support each other.

During the month of January, I kept coming across ads, getting emails and seeing online posts for New Year’s resolutions competition from all sorts of fitness clubs.

And it astounds me.

Isn’t the whole idea of wellness is to be in tune with ourselves and one another and not compete with each other?

Shouldn’t we be be supporting our fellow fitness friends on their new journey (whether it is a New Year’s resolution or simply a new beginning sparked by a desire to live healthier ) no matter what time of the year it is?

When did it all getting fit, losing weight, feeling better about ourselves turn into a competition?

It should be about supporting each other.

That’s it.

I’ve been in this industry for over 15 years, and what has always motivated me, to this day, was to have a room full of cheerleaders when I am going after new fitness goals, rather then competitors.

We have enough to deal with in our lives that requires stiff competition - both professionally and personally. I totally get that. Let’s use our time for mind/body wellness to do just t hat. Support each other mentally for what we hope to achieve physically.

That’s why I love our gym - Fuel Fitness. It’s not just Fuel for the body, it’s Fuel for the building of relationships with yourself as well new friends (and not competitors) who sweat next to you everyday.

People support each other - the way it should be.
