Rumson-Fair Haven HS Nix Homecoming King And Queen Due To Bullying

Other homecoming events, including a carnival and football game still went on, sans King and Queen.

RUMSON, NJ-- Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School is no longer a monarchy: officials nixed the homecoming court after a bullying scheme was revealed, Redbankgreen reported Thursday.

According to reports, a group of students had planned to rig the election so that an unlikely pair would win, and would be made fun of as a result.

“It’s mass bullying,” Superintendent Peter Righi told Redbankgreen. “They’ve rigged the voting. I’m frankly embarrassed that it happens.”

Righi, a vice principal and the athletic director reportedly collaborated with student council to find a solution that didn't involve cancelling the tradition, but were unable to.

The football game and a pre-game carnival still went on as planned.

King and Queen had been awarded at the football game for the past four years, after poor attendance led to the cancellation of the homecoming dance.
