Brief: Scotch Plains' Gibbs Declares for NBA Draft

If drafted, he would join Fanwood's Derrick Caracter in the pros.

Ashton Gibbs, a resident of Scotch Plains and a junior guard at the University of Pittsburgh, announced that he will declare for the NBA draft, according to an Associated Press report published Tuesday by NJ.com.

Gibbs is one of Pittsburgh's leading scorers. This season, , netting 26 points in the team's first-round win over UNC-Asheville. The team subsequently lost to Butler, 71-70. 

Gibbs must submit paperwork for the NBA draft by April 24, the AP report stated, but if he does not hire an agent, he has until May 8 to withdraw his name without losing his NCAA eligibility. Gibbs said that he will not hire an agent in the run-up to the draft.
