Burglary, Fraud, Dumpster Fires Reported In Scotch Plains
Scotch Plains Police reported fraud, thefts, burglary, drug and warrant arrests in the township.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains Police reported fraud, thefts, burglary, drug and warrant arrests in the township.
Scotch Plains Police Blotter:
On Jan. 8: Robert L. Caldwell, 35, of Plainfield, was arrested on outstanding warrants out of South Plainfield and Piscataway during a motor vehicle stop. Caldwell was then transported to headquarters and processed.

On Jan. 8: A resident on Tillinghast Turn reported a theft. The victim reported a letter she received in the mail was opened and a gift card was taken.
On Jan. 8: A residential burglary was reported in the 1500 block of Terrill Road. Entry was gained through a rear ground floor window. The burglary occurred sometime between 10:30 a.m. and noon.

On Jan. 9: Lateefah R. Monroe, 32, of Newark, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop. Monroe was then transported to headquarters and processed.
On Jan. 11: Suleiman Abutrabe, 44, of Elizabeth, was arrested on outstanding warrants out of Cliffside Park, Clark and Westfield during a motor vehicle stop. Abutrabe was then transported to headquarters and processed.
On Jan. 11: A resident on Hill Road reported a phone scam. The victim received a phone call stating there was an issue with their current tax return and was advised to deposit several thousand dollars in an account the suspect provided. The incident is under investigation.
On Jan. 11: Patrol units were dispatched to 660 Jerusalem Road on a report of a garage fire. Units located a dumpster behind the building on fire. The Scotch Plains Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire without incident.
On Jan. 12: Maxim J. Augustin, 48, of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence during a motor vehicle stop. Augustin was then transported to headquarters and processed.
On Jan. 13: A resident on Swans Mill Lane reported a fraud. The victim stated someone attempted to cash a fraudulent check against the victim’s home equity line of credit. The incident is under investigation.
On Jan. 13: A resident on Maple View Court reported a fraud. The victim reported fraudulent activity on their cell phone account and several credit cards. The incident is under investigation.
On Jan. 14: Fredelin D. Tavera, 24, of Garfield, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and outstanding warrants out of New Gretna, Bloomfield and Paramus, Tavera was then transported to headquarters and processed.
On Jan. 14: Daniel Gonzalez, 36, of Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Scotch Plains.
On Jan. 16: A resident in the 200 block of Victor Street reported criminal mischief. The rear window of the victim’s vehicle was shattered sometime overnight.
On Jan. 16: A resident in the 1900 block of Bartle Avenue reported a fraud. Someone altered a check the victim had previously mailed out and cashed it without the victim’s permission.
On Jan. 16: Patrol units and the Scotch Plains Fire Department responded to the Quick Chek, located on Westfield Avenue, on a report of a garbage fire. The fire was very minor and extinguished without incident.
On Jan. 16: A resident in the 1900 block of Brookside Drive reported a burglary. Entry was gained through a rear window. Occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and the incident is currently under investigation.
On Jan. 17: The management at the Quick Chek, located on Westfield Avenue, reported a theft. A black male entered the store and placed items inside his jacket and fled the store in an unknown direction. The incident is currently under investigation.
On Jan. 17: A resident in the 1800 block of Lake Avenue reported a fraud. The victim reported someone gained access to their Kohl’s credit account and made purchases without their knowledge. The incident is currently under investigation.
On Jan. 19: Anthony D. Fellin, 20, of North Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Fanwood during a motor vehicle stop. Fellin was then transported to headquarters and processed.
On Jan. 21: Otaja S. Jones, 22, of Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of Woodbridge during a motor vehicle stop. Jones was then transported to headquarters and processed.
