Yale Science Talk - Cells: The Chocolate Factory of Life

Event Details

Scotch Plains Public Library, 1927 Bartle Ave, Scotch Plains, NJ, 07076

Join us at the Scotch Plains Public Library on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:00pm for this online Science in the News Library talk with Yale graduate students Sue Moon and Deepanshi!  They'll take us on a tour of the cellular machinery behind this assembly line, and show how recipe books called DNA are carefully copied and used to give cells the instructions to make these essential proteins.

Cells may be tiny, but inside each one is a bustling chocolate factory that keeps our bodies running—only the “chocolates” here are proteins—molecules that come in many flavors, shapes, and sizes and perform a wide variety of jobs in our cells. "In exploring cells, we appreciate the enormous complexity of life. In understanding cells, we decipher the rules of our own existence." -Iva Tolić

How are these products made, packaged, and shipped to the places that need them? And where does the factory get its instructions?
