Local Preschools Partner with Local Charity to Help Children in Need

Thirteen Gateway-Region Goddard Schools partnered with Reach Out and Read, a non-profit organization that advocates for childhood literacy, to collect over 10,511 new and gently used books for children in need.

As part of the collection, preschoolers participated in arts and crafts, enjoyed visits from guest readers and a variety of “theme” days were held. The theme the school participated in was “dress like a children’s book character” where the children, teachers and families came in dressed to school resembling a character from their favorite book.

“We are grateful that the generosity of our families will help promote literacy in our surrounding communities. Reading to children during these developmental years not only helps develop early reading skills but provides a bonding experience that all families should have,” says Tracy Brace, on-site owner of The Goddard School located in Fanwood.

The book drive is part of the schools’ initiative to promote literacy and teach the children the importance of giving back to the community.
