The Animal Initiative Committee (AIC) is hosting an Earth Day Celebration on Sunday May 5, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Leland Avenue Park, (next to Cook Elementary School, 739 Leland Ave.) Plainfield, New Jersey. The event is free of charge and open to everyone. “The Earth is home to every living creature,” said Maryellen Chanda, Animal Initiative Celebration event chairwoman. The Earth Day Celebration will feature a nature walk through the park led by Holly Hoffman, retired Director at Trailside Nature Center, long-time Plainfield resident and birder, who will discuss the animals and plants that make the park home. In addition, shaman Ellie Campoli will lead a native American blessing for the Earth and wildlife. Milkweed plants, which give sustenance to Monarch butterflies, will be planted and milkweed seeds will be given out. Handouts about veganism and a harmonious gardening list of deer resistant plants will be available. “Earth Day reminds us of our responsibility to care for the Earth both today and for the generations to come,” said Ms. Chanda. Light vegan refreshments will be served after the blessing. For more information about the Celebration please call 908.256-3858 or Plainfieldaic2000@gmail.com.

The Animal Initiative Committee (AIC), founded in 2002, is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to increasing people’s awareness of their responsibility for the well-being of all animals and how to live in harmony with them. The AIC has always focused on the problem of overpopulation of dogs and cats, especially community cats. It implemented a very successful trap, neuter, and return (TNR) program for the latter. Volunteers to help with this important effort are always needed. For more information about the AIC or to volunteer, please call 908.256-3858 or Plainfieldaic2000@gmail.com.
