Taking Back Control After Breast Cancer

The Fanwood- Scotch Plains Y is proud to partner with the MovingOn survivorship program to support breast cancer survivors in regaining control over their body after treatment is complete.  Group training classes are scheduled to begin, March 15, 2011 at 6:30pm.  This five week program will include a full-body exercise program with special attention to increasing range of motion and increasing strengh in weakened areas that are specific to breast cancer suvivors.  Lat flap and tram flap patients are encouraged to participate as well.  The goal of every MovingOn class is to have survivors regain control over their bodies.  During and after treatment survivors may experience any of the following postural issues;  forward or "hunched' shoulders, back pain, shoulder pain, tightness in the upper body area, weakened core muscles.  MovingOn rehabilitative exercise programs are designed specifically for Breast Cancer Survivors.  Exercise design focus’ on stretching and strengthening specific muscle groups that are affected by breast cancer treatment and procedures.  Also addressed in class are postural issues affected by tram and lat flap procedures.  For more information and to register for this program go to www.movingonfromcancer.com or call the Y at 908-889-8880 and ask for Sheri.
