Training Wheel Toss

Training Wheel Toss

On Sunday, May 16, 2010, the Fanwood Recreation Commission hosts the 2nd Annual Training Wheel Toss, 1–4 pm, Union County Vocational School parking lot, Scotch Plains. This program teaches children a safe, easy and effective way to learn to ride their bicycles. Using the "balance first" method introduced by Bike New York, the non-profit organization dedicated to cycling advocacy, children learn the basics of balancing, starting, stopping and steering a bike.  By the time the class is over, most children will know how to ride their bikes independently! However, even if they don't, children (and parents) will leave with an easy and fun way to learn to ride.

All participants must be at least 5-years old, wear a helmet and have a bicycle that is in good working condition, and must be able to rest their feet flat on the ground while sitting on his or her bicycle seat.  All participants must be accompanied by an adult throughout the entire session. Parents or guardians are encouraged to remove training wheels prior to the class, if possible. Participation is free, but preregistration, limited to the first 60, is required.
