Fanwood Man Stole $170K From Mother's IRA, Prosecutor Says

A Wisconsin man, formerly of Fanwood, has been charged with siphoning more than $170,000 out of his widowed mother’s individual retirement account fund over the course of about seven years, Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Tuesday. 

Robert Blabolil, 54, is charged with second-degree theft. He was arrested late last week when he appeared in court as the defendant in an unrelated civil matter. 

Blabolil’s father died in 2001, leaving his widow, a Springfield resident, the retirement fund in question, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Ann Rubin, who is prosecuting the case.

Blabolil ultimately gained control over the account, using it to pay himself tens of thousands of dollars in checks and to make large deposits in an account controlled by his wife and an investment account of his own, Rubin said. 

The alleged thefts took place from September 2005 through August 2012.

State Superior Court Judge Thomas J. Walsh set bail at $75,000 with no cash option.
