Firefighter Injured, Dog Dies In Scotch Plains Fire

A member of the Clark Fire Department suffered injuries to his shoulder and neck when a ceiling collapsed on him during fire.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A firefighter was injured and a dog died following a fire in Scotch Plains earlier this month.

Heavy smoke was reported on March 1 at around 7:20 p.m to a home in the 900 block of Crestwood Ave. in Scotch Plains, police report.

No one was home at the time and Scotch Plains Fire Department long with Fanwood, Westfield, Berkeley Heights, Mountainside and Clark were able to put out the fire.

The resident’s dog was found and firefighters tried to resuscitate the animal but were unsuccessful, police report.

A member of the Clark Fire Department also suffered injuries to his shoulder and neck when a ceiling collapsed on him. He was transported to Rahway hospital. No other injuries were reported.
