Former Scotch Plains Police Chief, Brian T. Mahoney, has been arrested for hitting a pole and driving under the influence: report

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Former Scotch Plains Police Chief, Brian T. Mahoney, has been arrested for hitting a pole and driving under the influence, according to nj.com.

Mahoney, 51 was arrested around midnight on Saturday, Sept. 10 when he crashed he veered off New Durham Road in his 2016 Dodge Durango and struck a pole, splitting it in half, according to nj.com.

He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for injuries and released.

Mahoney was charged with DUI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane, according to nj.com.

Mahoney retired from the Scotch Plains Police Department in March after 11 years of service.

This marks the second time a Scotch Plains-related police officer has been arrested for driving impaired. Recently hired Scotch Plains officer Stephanie Roggina, 26, of Flemington was arrested for driving while intoxicated and fleeing from a Hunterdon County officer earlier this month.
