Learn about Rodin Sculpture Discovered in New Jersey

On Thursday, November 14 at 7 pm, Mallory Mortillaro, curator of collections for the Hartley Dodge Foundation, will be at the Scotch Plains Public Library to share the unlikely story of how she discovered a marble bust of Napoleon carved by Auguste Rodin here in New Jersey, considered lost since the 1930s.

While cataloging the foundation’s art collection, she noticed a carving on the back of the bust, which had been on public display in the Madison, NJ borough hall for 85 years. That carving turned out to be Rodin’s signature, and the long journey toward authentication began, with much skepticism along the way.
